In honor of Valentine's Day, l'd like to offer five tips and some DIY ideas from our wedding! Nothing shouts love like a wedding! Feel free to use, or share with friends who might be planning a wedding. My wedding was pre-Pinterest, just for the record! Kinda proud of that actually.
Tip #1: Do It Yourself as much as possible, but hire for the important stuff!
We hired an amazing photographer. Worth every penny. All of the photos in this post were taken by our photographer John Andersen, who you can find out more about here.
Tip #2: Make your ceremony brochure a fan when having a summer wedding!
This hand held fan is a program that I made for guests as they entered the ceremony. It is a simple card stock print out that I developed in Word. I could fit both the front and back on one 8.5 x 11 sheet of card stock, I chose to have them printed at a copy center as it was cheaper and less stressful that way. On the front I listed the service details and the back I listed the wedding party and a note of thanks to our guests. I glued the two pieces of card stock together and added a large craft stick at the bottom with glue. Simple, practical, and lots of people needed the fans! With a few hands to help assemble these, this wasn't a big task.

Tip #3: It's great to involve as many people as possible in helping with the wedding details.
I can't take credit for the handiwork on this project, but I can say it was an idea that I saw that I really wanted in my wedding. My brother-in-law made this for me. It has our initials on the top and our wedding date on the bottom. Our rings are tied onto the ribbon. The wood was sliced from an old tree and was inscribed with a wood burning tool. Our nephew carried it in our wedding. We still have this keepsake in our home!
Tip #4: Learn to let things go, you can't do it all.
We kept the ceremony site simple, I loved what the florist did with the aisle decor. I had no idea what this would look like, when the florist suggested it.

Tip #5 Trust the people you have helping you.
'Cause if the ring bearer gets scared and doesn't want to go down the aisle, you are going to be happy you had the pastor's wife at the back door! True story. Everyone loves a ring bearer that is scared, and cute!
Weddings are so much fun, but I have to say I've seen the worst in people come out when they are planning their wedding. The controlling, lack of flexibility and stress is unreal. I am very proud that the day of my wedding there was a crease in my dress and other people were freaking out WAY more than I was. The joy was incredible, and the person I am spending my life with is even better. Love you, Mark!
